Cedar Street Galleries presents
Yesterday and Today
Featuring Madge Tennent and Chris Campbell
September 28-29, 2001
Madge Tennent's "old Hawaii" is captured in each of her works of art. Her impasto oils, detailed drawings and her simple sketches can be found throughout the world in public and private collections, however, she will always be a part of Hawaii and its people. Before her death in 1972, Madge Tennent had passionately been producing her highly regarded stylized women of Hawaii for over 50 years.
Three generations later, Chris Campbell has embarked on a path that has left behind her previous successful style of painting and has embraced a fresh, new interpretation of the women of Hawaii. At the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Artists of Hawaii 2000 show, Chris Campbell debuted her new vision. She was presented the Jean Charlot Award for Excellence by the juror and world-renowned artist Wayne Thiebaud. At the 2001 "Artist of Hawaii" show, Ms. Campbell was presented with the Melsuine Award by Arnold L. Lehman, director of the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
